1/2 Scale Crit

     The model I chose for my design worked successfully and withheld the weight for the half scale model. During this critique I learned a lot about the structure of cardboard, and how it holds up to the test. Notes:

  • Use double-ply cardboard whereever possibe; keep in mind it's heavier though.
  • Needs reinforcement for the back and underneath the calfs.
  • Research a more comfortable angle for the back
  • Lower the portion of the chair where the lower leg rests
  • Support head if possible for those who want to read.

         Something to think about is possibly a place to rest the arms, if I can do it efficiently. Also add more cross members to secure the backbone of the chair at pivotal points. A problem I had with the skin, where tabs were sticking up, I could possibly integrate the skin and connect it to the backbones to minimize wear and tear of the cardboard.
